Another delicious lunch at home

This time cooked by Amy's dad

Some old dude brushing the roof top

There's a more to do behind you old chap...

orphanage across the road from our building

This new room was built to stop babies abandoned in winter from dieing before they are found. Most likely babies with disabilities.

Upon entering the room it triggers the heating. Upon exiting, it triggers an alarm that a baby has arrived.

The 'great' Wall of Nanjing

Old lady hanging the washing closer to the sunshine

The 'great' Wall of Nanjing

Visit to the newly extended Nanjing Museum today

Pillows from the Song Dynasty

I suppose I should 'harden' up about my crappy pillow here

Small statutes from the Tang Dynasty

Paper airplanes

Didn't go out yesterday. Apart from being visited by friends, we just made paper airplanes all day it seemed. Ollee can't get enough of them!!!

Today's lunch at home

We hosted lunch for a couple of Amy's friends.

I'm enjoying this diet so far!!

Stinkiest tofu

This was high quality stink. I was brave enough to eat some. I could tell it was high quality, but fark it tasted like goats poo (as I could imagine).

Amy you eat the rest... (nom nom nom in response)

What we actually had

But it didn't stop at this. 3 times as much came out. Way too much for 6 adults and 3 kids.

So much better food than in any Chinese restaurant I've ever experienced in Australia.

Pictures is ducks tongues, one of Amy's favourites. I gave them a miss...

Fish Heads

Someone else gets the best bits???

Ducks gizzards and more

Got to love gizzards...

Smashed cucumber

Strange translation on the menu

Lila and Ollee's grandparents at Made in Grandma's

Made in Grandma's

To complete our first day back in China, Amy's brother took us to a banquet on the other side of the city.
A very long drive in crazy traffic, but worth it when we got there.

3 sunny days so far

Once again I've been lucky with the weather on my travels.

It's very crisp and cold, colder than a Canberra winter, but tolerable.

So much variety

Leaves our markets to shame

Eat my lunch with the carcasses

Nom nom nom !!!

Eggs are us

Amy's mum buying some eggs. We had a heap of small quail eggs with lunch.

Street food

Strawberries leave Oz to shame

Unbelievably sweet tasty and perfect strawberries, for only $2 for 500g in the middle of winter.

This really does call into question the quality and price of fruit in Australia, where you get strawberries squashed into a punnet where there's always one rotten one hiding in the middle and their twice as expensive at best and their hard and sometimes tasteless.

Mandarins and apples had similar superiority to the crap ex refrigerated fruit we get back home

Corn tubes

An old childhood favourite snack of Amy's. The kids loved them.

Crabs were good

They were fresh water crabs. Male of the species.
They are good for eating because of their big sperm sack which is the best part. This is true. Tasted like egg yolk but 1000 times better. Just don't think about what it is and your fine...

Crabs for lunch

A present from Amy's brother, a box of live crabs, getting washed and brushed before being boiled live.

I suppose they have to die sometime, better be fresh and tasty than stinky and bland from some Aussie fish shop.
